Whitneyville Armory Model 1
circa 1870
in .30 Rimfire
This is a very nice rare caliber pistol
made by Eli Whitney at the Whitneyville Armory in
Connecticut.
These were made from 1871-1879. This pistol is a Model No. 1,
5 shot in .30 rimfire revolver, serial number 16E. Most of
these were in .22 rimfire and a few in .32 rimfire. The mechanical function is
perfect, crisp and tight. The hammer and trigger show good
case coloring. The bore is good with strong
rifling but bit a little corrosion. The nickel finish is in
excellent condition with some light scratches to the surface. The grips retain 96% varnish
and are numbered to the gun. This is a
2.5” barrel on this little bird’s head grip revolver. This
is the type of gun that ladies of the evening would carry to
discourage unruly patrons in the 1870s or would serve
equally as well as a vest pocket gun for a gambling gent.
