This is a
very nice trade gun that the current owner purchased
from Track of the Wolf. It is used
with wear to the finish but has a very good bore.
The stock is
curly maple with a very dark stain which is wearing in
places from use. The
figure of the maple now shows through. One option is to
strip the old finish and apply a new finish. You could
also leave it with the natural patina it has now. I
don't know of any original French trade guns that were
stocked in curly maple which is probably why the builder
chose to stain this gun so dark. Original guns were
stocked either in European walnut or beech. The barrel is 41½" long oct-round in 20
gauge and does not have a touch hole liner but the touch
hole is coned from the outside. The parts were purchased
from Caywood and custom stocked. The barrel and other iron
parts are browned patina. The brass parts are very
nicely engraved. Very well made gun with tight inlets
and quality parts.
The gun holds and
points very well and should be a good shooter for
hunting.
Weight 7 lbs. 12
oz.
