This is a very nicely made custom rifle by Allen Martin of Swengel, PA. Allen is
one of the top gun builders today. This is gun #51 and was made January 1998.
It is stocked in a nice piece of curly maple stained to a medium brown
and finished with a hand-rubbed oil finish. The stock was started from a blank
and hand-shaped. There are a couple of small old chips out behind the tang. The lock is a Chamber's large Siler flintlock. The barrel is
a swamped 38" long, Getz in .40 caliber.
There is a touch hole liner. The bore is excellent. The buttplate and guard are
sand cast and the rest of the brass parts were made by Allen including the
patchbox which has a push-button release. The brass parts have been
polished to a nice satin and have some natural patina now. The steel parts were
browned but have aged to a nice grey color. The inlets are very tight and styling is very clean. Overall a very nice, well made rifle.
Weight is 7 lbs. 9 oz. Pull is 14".
