This is a
very nice fowler made by Chuck Hinkle. It has been
snapped but I don't think it has been fired.
The stock is
curly maple with a medium stain. The lock is a Chamber's
early Ketland flint. The barrel is a Rice 38" long oct-round in
12
gauge and has a touch hole liner. It also has a hook
breech but no keys. You would need to drive out the pins
to remove the barrel. The barrel, lock and other iron
parts are browned with a nice aged appearance. The brass parts are polished to a
satin finish, as would be correct for the period, and
have a slight patina from handling. Very well made gun with tight inlets
and quality parts. If this were in my collection, I
would add keys to the barrel for easier removal and the
brass is also calling out for some engraving.
The gun holds and
points very well and should be a good shooter for
hunting.
