English Fowler

  By Clay Smith

40" barrel in 20 gauge

This is a very nice fowler numbered 103 which I made back in 1985. It came in for consignment with no engraving anywhere except for the name. I couldn't let it go back out that way with such a nice stock and styling so I spent a couple of days dressing it up. The gun is 39 years old but is in like new condition. It looks much better in person than the photographs can show.

The stock is beautiful piece of figured crotch grain walnut with a black horn nosecap. The lock is a L&R late flint. The barrel is a 40" long oct-round in 20 gauge and has a touch hole liner. The bore is excellent. It also has a hook breech with two keys and a soldered under rib. I don't know who made the barrel as it is unmarked and my memory is failing. The steel parts are blued with a little fading from years of handling. Very well made gun with tight inlets and quality parts.

The gun holds and points very well and should be a good shooter for hunting.

Weight 7 lbs. 4 oz.   Pull is 13½"
