Double Flint Shotgun

by William Spain

37" damascus barrels in 9 gauge

This is a very nice double shotgun made by Bill Spain of Richmond, Va. Bill retired as a Fire Captain but was always a machinist at heart. His guns are generally rather plain and dark but the fit and finish is exceptional. This gun is lightly used as Bill hunted with this rifle and it is in almost new condition. If you had this gun built today you would spend almost twice the price.

The barrels are 34" long with excellent bores and touch hole liners. They are original damascus barrels that were percussion and Bill cut the breeches down, made new plugs and a new tang to fit. The bores have been honed to a new smooth finish inside which has enlarged the bores from a 10 gauge to a 9 gauge. The stock is a nice plain piece of walnut with a dark stain and hand rubbed oil finish. The mounts are original pieces that have been cleaned up and re-engraved. The locks are the L&R Late English style which have been tuned up to work faster. I probably have wads to fit in the dozens of boxes that came with the collection. Be sure to ask if you decide to buy this beautiful gun.

Overall a very nice unique gun that is very well made and lightweight for the bore size.

Weight 7 lbs. 6 ozs.  Pull is 14¾"
