This is a nicely made Plains rifle by Tom Trimmer of Mineral, Va. This
gun was made many years ago as Tom has been dead a few years now. He wasn't a
gunsmith but built good solid rifles that had a nice patina built in and he used
them for matches and hunting.
It is stocked in a moderately curly maple stained to a medium brown
and finished with a hand-rubbed oil finish. When I originally received this
rifle, the finish was almost black and very uneven so I stripped the wood,
restained and finished it to give it a better look. The lock is an L&R flintlock
and sparks very well. The barrel is a Green Mountain. It is
a straight 36" long,
15/16" across the flats in .50 caliber.
There is a touch hole liner. The bore is very good. The gun is mounted in steel
and the parts are lightly browned. The inlets have little gaps here and there
but nothing worth noting as everything has a good solid fit. Overall a very nice rifle.
Weight is 8 lbs. 6 oz. Pull is 13¾".
