This is a nice Lehigh Valley/Allentown style rifle made by Tom Trimmer of
Buckingham, VA. It is lightly used and has his name on a brass piece inlet into
the barrel.
This rifle is stocked in a nice piece of
curly maple that that is stained to a nice dark brown. The hardware is brass
that has a hand-polished satin finish and a natural patina through use. The
barrel is a straight 15/16", 44" long in
.45 caliber. I haven't pulled the barrel to check for maker's stamp, but it
appears to be a Green Mountain barrel. There is no touch hole liner but one can
be added. The bore
is dusty but excellent condition. The lock is an L&R Classic style flintlock.
The steel parts have a deep brown color. The wood has an aged appearance. All
inlets are tight and it is a nice shooting rifle. The engraving is slightly
crude but Tom was a carpenter and not a gunsmith. He built rifles for himself
and friends. Sadly he passed away a few years ago. Tom and I shot together for
over 40 years. His widow has given me his collection to pass along.
Weight is 9 lbs. 15 oz. Pull is 14".
