Early Virginia Longrifle

by Clay Smith

44" barrel in .50 cal

This is a very nice early Virginia rifle made by me in 2008 and is lightly used. This was made for my best friend of 45 years who recently passed away and I am selling it for his widow. We only took it out once to sight it in and it's been in a closet since then. I went over the gun to check it out, oiled the lock and bore and polished the wood. It is ready for a new owner.

This rifle is stocked in a piece of nice curly maple that that is stained to a nice dark brown.  The hardware is brass cast here in my shop and has a hand-polished satin finish and a natural patina. The barrel is a swamped Ed Rayl, 44" long in .50 caliber. There is a touch hole liner. The lock is a Chamber's round face Virginia style. The steel parts have an aged brown color. The sheet brass parts were made by me as well. Overall it is still in excellent condition with a very good bore. Inlets are tight and well done. Holds and balances very nicely.

As I am not currently taking any more custom orders for the foreseeable future, this may be the last chance to own one of my custom rifles.

Weight is 8 lbs. 11 oz.    Pull is 14".
